YURA and his group GARIFUNA SANTO NEGRO are from the Honduras province of Atlantida, from Sambo Creek, near La Ceiba, where there are still a large number of Hondureños with African descendants.

The purpose of the group is to preserve the culture of the Garifuna people through education & music. This the group actively achieves by organizing activities in Sambo Creek, La Ceiba and neighboring Garifuna communities from Honduras, Nicaragua, Guatemala, and Belize.

To preserve this unique local culture, the group is teaching the Garifuna language, dance, arts and crafts, as well as music, and in addition, they host fiestas and prepare traditional food and drink for the people in their own cultural center in the Garifuna village of Sambo Creek.

Currently, the group is organizing a permanent body of workers in arts

and culture to provide professional services and representations for their Garifuna communities.

YURA & GARIFUNA SANTO NEGRO have been performing exclusively in Honduras for many years, and have also traveled out of the country to represent Honduras. Their presentations have been well received in Spain, Holland, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, U.S.A., Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Guatemala and Japan.
