POR ESTOS PIES CD SALES REPORT

At the beginning of January of 1998 a benefit performance was held in San Cristobal de Las Casas for the refugee children in the highlands of Chiapas. Everyone was struck by the awareness of the Mexican and international musicians who took part in the benefit, who were so willing to donate their time to help the children in Chiapas.

So the idea came up of putting together a cassette. Each of the musicians contributed one or more songs to this compilation. The time spent doing this was something magical, as producers were able to bring together musicians from Guatemala, Nigeria, Israel, England, the United States of America, Denmark, Spain, Holland, Argentina and Mexico. All these musicians spent the next few days recording in a studio in San Cristobal de Las Casas, in Chiapas.

BIKES NOT BOMBS of Texas became aware of this recording  through the Bikes Not Bombs team which was working on the community bicycle project in San Cristobal, as a benefit for the refugees of the Chiapas crisis. Through Ruta Maya Coffee Company in Austin,Texas, a company that specializes in selling Chiapas organic coffee in the United States, Bikes Not Bombs secured funding to make this compilation of music available on compact discs. This recording was a time of many fortunate coincidences, spontaneity and enthusiasm.

MOTIVES: Above all, the purpose of this production is to raise money to buy huaraches (sandals) for refugee children of the highlands of Chiapas. Proceeds from the sales of this recording will be allocated towards these communities for other self-help programs too.

THE RECORDING: It was completed in five tireless sessions and almost all of the songs were recorded in one take. In this way the songs retain a "live" feel. The special artmosphere in which they were recorded comes across in all the songs.

SPECIAL THANKS to: SANGEET STUDIOS for their patience, generosity and professional work. Thanks to all the musicians who gave their all. Thanks to SPECIAL RIDER MUSIC for permission to use BOB DYLAN´s song "MASTERS OF WAR", performed by TIM TRENCH and MELISSA SCHATZ. Thanks to SONGS OF POLYGRAM for the permission to use JIMMY CLIFF`s song "SUFFERING IN THE LAND", performed on the compilation by WISDOM OGBOR for ROOTS-N-WISDOM Music. Thanks to BIKES NOT BOMBS OF TEXAS and RUTA MAYA COFFEE COMPANY for sponsoring the CD project. Thanks to WISDOM OGBOR for coordinating the project. Thanks to BARBARA GUILLEN and TIM TRENCH for producing the songs that were recorded on this compilation. Thanks to WALLY SKINNER and JUAN CARLOS for CD masterings and support.
