The topic of this particular session with the children of the LOWER EASTSIDE SCHOOL was "MOUNTAINS".
The children shared a story of MOUNT CAMEROON which looks like the drawing above. It is an active volcano mountain located in Cameroon, West Africa. The mountain is also known as MOUNT FAKO to the natives.

Mount Cameroon is the highest mountain in West Africa standing more than 13,000ft high. The highest mountain in Africa is Mount Kilimanjaro in Kenya and Tanzania, standing 19,000ft tall. The highest point in North America is Mount McKinley in the U.S.A., at 20,000ft high. Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world is 29,000ft tall. There are up to 25 mountains in South America over 20,000ft high. Mount Cameroon's active volcano erupted in 1930 and 1982.

The children generated their own stories and drawings, like some of them below:

My mountain is a volcano. It could explode all over the place. Do you know?
By Alizah

The volcano is to climb on. It will take lots of time to get to the top.
