JILL HAYE'S STORIES

BnB OF TEXAS

Greetings:
to all supporters and friends of the CHIAPAS BICYCLE PROJECT OF BIKES NOT BOMBS

It is good to have this opportunity to post news online, so that you can have the freedom to select the way you want to view your information. This is still work under progress, and while that is going on, here are some quick info.

It has been one year ago since we delivered our truck-load of used bicycles to Chiapas Mexico. Some of the good things that followed is that more than forty displaced people and more low income people are able to go to work and school, and manage life better with our bicycles.

More recently we have been invited to share space in the Feminists Bookstore of San Cristobal where "female power" will help us run the new Bikes Not Bombs Community Bike Shop in San Cristobal de Las Casas. The shop will be open for use to all, and more information will be posted when we finish building and getting the shop ready.

BNB HONDURAS:
There will be more report soon on the Bikes Not Bombs' project in Honduras which has entered it's implementation stage. This project has began as a self-help program for the Garifuna and Indian people living in Sambo Creek, near La Ceiba, and the other neighboring Garifuna  and Indian villages

DONATED BIKES:
We still have about one hundred donated used bikes which we are holding over in Austin to be shipped as soon as we acquire another transport vehicle. The most of these bikes are being kept for us by our friends Miguel Rodriguez and Terri English. We thank them for their help and patience with us.

There are more bicycles that have been donated in New York City, Washington DC,  Houston, Texas, Guadalajara, Mexico, Tepoztlan, Mexico, Xalapa, Veracruz and a few other places. We have yet to make plans to pick these bikes up because of lack of know-how. But we still need these bikes for an effective campaign of "BICYCLES FOR LAS RUTAS MAYAS", and beyond too...

Please if you are holding bikes for us, do not give them up. Keep holding them and we hope to work out a grand method of "global" collection soon.

FUNDRAISERS
It is time to pay attention on how to get the money to help fund the next bicycle shipment we are planing, and the keep up of the two community shops we are putting up in San Cristobal de Las casas, Chiapas, Mexico, and in Sambo Creek, Atlantida, Honduras

If you can help us host a fundraising event in the summer of 2001, please e-mail us as soon as possible:

BNB VIDEO:
There will be more information soon about the video we made during our bicycle shipment to Chiapas last year. It is currently being edited better than what was shown in Austin and New York.

We invite other BNB chapters and bicycle organizations to send us news of their communities for inclusion here in a future posting

Please visit the WebPages of our wonderful host www.casadelpan.com
They are a good example of good people making a nice difference in Chiapas and Mexico.

Maybe you can join us too.
