The founder of La Casa del Pan, Kippy Nigh, and her husband Ron practice Buddhism. Kippy hosts meditation sessions in the restaurant on Monday mornings, (the day when the restaurant is closed). In addition, Ron and Kippy are active participants in the local Kadampa Buddhist Center, Centro "Drolma" (another name for Tara, the feminine Buddha of Wisdom and Compassion). Information is avaliable in the Casa del Pan shop about ongoing courses, retreats, pujas, and festivals offered at Centro Drolma. There are books available in the gift shop in English and Spanish by the Spiritual Guide of the New Kadampa Tradition world wide, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso (published by Tharpa Publications and Editorial Tharpa).
Products available in the gift shop: Mayan Dharma bags, to protect your Dharma books, are hand-woven by the Mayan women of San Andres Larrainzar, using high-quality, permanent color, 100% cotton, which is machine washable and lasts at least one lifetime. The purchase of these bags directly benefits the traditional Mayan women of Chiapas and their families, and profits from their sale go towards building Kadampa Buddhist Temples in the Americas.
Mayan Meditation Cushions are soft and comfortable, hand-woven in San Andres Larrainza, with high-quality, permanent color, 100% cotton, and are machine-washable. Kippy recommends using two at a time, one to sit on and another one to slightly elevate the seat at the back. Their sale benefits the indigenous Mayan women of Chiapas and helps build Kadampa Buddhist Temples in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
Mayan Mala Bags are hand-woven using 100% colorfast cotton threads. Their sale benefits traditional indigenous families in Chiapas, and proceeds are donated to the Kadampa Temple Project.
